Tom Hielkema

Solicitor

Tom joined Gellert Ivanson in 2021, bringing with him a foundation in litigation and advocacy from his previous work as a criminal defence barrister. This experience sharpened his analytical skills, deepened his understanding of risk, and strengthened his ability to support clients through high-stakes, often emotionally charged situations.

Tom now focuses on private wealth law, with an emphasis on Trusts, Succession, and Personal Planning. He takes a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach—helping clients structure their affairs with clarity and foresight, and guiding them through complex personal decisions with discretion and care.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Laws from Auckland University of Technology (2018) and was admitted to the bar in March 2019.

Outside of his legal practice, Tom enjoys playing the guitar, football, and sailing, and values the time he spends with friends and family.
