Tom Hielkema

Associate

Tom brings a unique blend of courtroom experience and strategic insight to his role at Gellert Ivanson. Before joining the firm in 2021, he honed his advocacy skills as a criminal defence barrister—an experience that sharpened his analytical thinking and ability to navigate high-stakes, emotionally charged situations.

Today, Tom focuses on private wealth law, advising clients on Trusts, Succession, and Personal Planning. His approach is pragmatic and solutions-driven: helping individuals and families structure their affairs with clarity and foresight, while guiding them through complex decisions with discretion and care.

Tom earned his Bachelor of Laws from Auckland University of Technology in 2018 and was admitted to the bar in 2019.

Outside the office, Tom enjoys playing guitar, football, and sailing—pursuits that reflect his love of creativity, teamwork, and precision.
